{"id":848,"date":"2011-10-06T21:56:47","date_gmt":"2011-10-06T21:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carmelfamilydentistry.com\/?p=848"},"modified":"2018-09-18T14:50:52","modified_gmt":"2018-09-18T18:50:52","slug":"the-benefits-of-dental-radiographs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelfamilydentistry.com\/the-benefits-of-dental-radiographs\/","title":{"rendered":"The Benefits of Dental Radiographs (x-rays)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because many diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues may not be possible to detect through a visual examination, an x-ray can help reveal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings)<\/li>\n<li>infections in the bone<\/li>\n<li>periodontal (gum) disease<\/li>\n<li>abscesses or cysts<\/li>\n<li>developmental abnormalities<\/li>\n<li>some types of tumors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Digital X-Rays<\/h2>\n<p>Most dentists are now using digital x-rays. To take a digital x-ray, a sensor is placed in the mouth that looks like a piece of film. Once the picture is taken, adjustments can be made to the contrast and brightness of the image to find even the smallest area of decay.
