The symptoms of this disease include red, swollen and tender gums, gums that bleed after brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, pain while chewing, and loose teeth.\u00a0 Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.\u00a0 Additionally, it may have great effects on your general health.<\/p>\n
A member of your dental team can determine if you have periodontal disease by performing a quick and relatively painless test to measure the size and depth of the pockets in the gums. Pockets of 5mm or more may indicate an infection. You can prevent gum disease by visiting the dentist or periodontist every 4-6 months, brushing and flossing regularly, and using a recommended antiseptic mouthwash.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
